Recently, the Overseas Study and Exchange Center (OSEC) of Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM) of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics received great news: the University of Birmingham Undergraduate 2+2 Program’s 16 graduates have all received conditional master’s degree offers from some of the world ‘s most prestigious universities. 11 of them have been admitted to the University of Cambridge (with conditions such as last year’s average scores be must above 70 and a minimum IELTS score of 7.5), and 1 student received a conditional offer from the University of Oxford. Other conditional offers came from Australian National University, Imperial College of London, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Warwick, and University of Birmingham. For the 11 students who have been admitted to the University of Cambridge, eight of them are from the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM), two are from the School of Finance, and one is from the School of Economics. 13 students received conditional offers from more than two universities, and three students received four conditional offers (including the University of Cambridge). OSEC began collaborating with the University of Birmingham in 2011 to carry out the undergraduate 2+2 program. All candidates complete their first and second year’s courses at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and the next two years at the University of Birmingham. At the end of the journey when all rigorous tests have been cleared, the student will receive two bachelor’s degrees from both of these universities. Mr. Xu was one of the students who joined the first session of the University of Birmingham’s Undergraduate 2+2 Program. This year he graduated from the University of Cambridge with a master’s degree and has received a PhD offer with a full scholarship from the University of Cambridge. Looking back on his past study life with OSEC, Mr. Xu said “I experienced two different education systems within four years. I think the biggest reward I obtained was when I attended the University of Birmingham’s Undergraduate 2+2 Program. What most impressed me when I studied with OSEC was the international education team. All the faculty members have overseas educational backgrounds, and we can naturally absorb many learning styles and ways of thinking. I feel that OSEC made great efforts to encourage us to use English to explore a new world.” Since its establishment in 2007, OSEC has trained hundreds of students and helped them successfully study in undergraduate, master and PhD programs at well-known universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Singapore.
