On July 23, the 2026 SWUFE RIEM Global Academy came to a successful close at the Liulin Campus. With the theme of "Chinese Economy and Sustainable Development," the 10-day camp brought together 68 international students from Russia, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Vietnam, and other countries. Gathering in the city of Chengdu, they gained first-hand insight into China's development and cultural charm, completing a cross-border academic journey that combined scholarly depth with cultural warmth.
Leveraging the university's strong disciplinary foundations in economics, finance, and management, the SWUFE RIEM Global Academy built a high-level, international platform for academic exchange. The program featured joint lectures by renowned overseas scholars and senior professors from RIEM, offering a well-structured curriculum of cutting-edge courses and seminars tailored to contemporary developments. These helped young international participants strengthen their academic foundations and broaden their research horizons. Specialized courses such as Chinese Economy, Digital Branding in the Post AI Era, and Elementary Chinese Language were offered, balancing professional academic training with practical Chinese language skills to meet the diverse learning needs of international students. In parallel, a series of thematic talks were presented, including Digital Marketing in China: Development and Business Practice, Bank Market Power under Macroeconomic Uncertainty: Evidence from Emerging Economies, and Lectures on Chengdu's History and Culture, which closely followed industrial frontiers and economic realities while integrating both academic rigor and local cultural characteristics. Classroom activities employed diverse teaching formats such as interactive discussions, case studies, and brainstorming sessions, guiding students from various countries to stimulate research thinking and build academic consensus through in-depth exchanges.
Beyond academic studies, the SWUFE RIEM Global Academy also offered an integrated immersive experience combining "language learning, cultural immersion, and field practice," taking international students beyond the classroom and into the fabric of Chinese life. Chinese language classes focused on practical communication scenarios, helping participants consolidate their language skills and enhance cross-cultural communicative competence. The field study program was rich in content: students visited museums to trace the Shu and Ba cultural heritage through millennia-old artifacts, gaining an appreciation for China's profound historical legacy; they went to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base to observe the conservation status of this national treasure, reflecting on China's practical achievements and commitments in ecological civilization; they toured the Dujiangyan irrigation system, a millennia-old water conservancy project, to appreciate the Eastern wisdom of harmonizing with nature and benefiting generations. In addition, students conducted on-site research at the R&D center of a renowned automobile brand, witnessing the quality and innovation of Chinese manufacturing up close, and visited the Chengdu Park City demonstration zone to directly observe the advanced development concept that integrates modern urban construction with ecological green growth.
With its rich content and diverse formats, the SWUFE RIEM Global Academy enabled international participants to gain a comprehensive, multi-dimensional understanding of the real and dynamic China of the new era, while providing an excellent platform for academic connectivity and cultural mutual learning between Chinese and overseas youth. Looking ahead, RIEM will continue to deepen its international approach to education, connect with global quality resources, and build high-level academic and cultural exchange platforms for young people worldwide, contributing to telling China's story vividly and deepening civilizational exchanges and mutual learning between China and the world.
